Tashkenbay Bakdaulet is a 2 year and 7 months old boy from Kazakhstan. He was admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital (BPIH) for intermittent asthma, which he had for over a year, after initially contracting a fever. Tashkenbay has received numerous treatments at his local hospitals but no improvement was gained. With his asthmatic condition getting worse, he was finally diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy (Congestive Cardiomyopathy).
Admission at BPIH
After his admission to our hospital, multiple UCG were performed, his ejection fraction (EF) was below 25%. He was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, a Cytomegalovirus Infection as well as Dilated Cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias with left ventricular enlargement. Tashkenbay easily tired during exercise and his asthma became worse when he felt tired.
Following the completion of all standard medical tests, several medical protocols for symptomatic as well as supportive treatment were applied, which included numerous medicines that were administered through IV to improve the function of his heart, reduce the palpitations, to provide nutrition and oral medicines to relief his asthma.
Medical Condition following the treatment for Dilated Cardiomyopathy
The patient’s general condition improved day by day. Unfortunately in the second week of his stay, treatment had to be suspended due to a shortage of funds, as his family ran into financial difficulties. Our medical team was expecting a complete cure, if he was only able to complete the planned treatment protocol.
Nevertheless to ensure the best results possible, our medical team designed a very detailed medication plan for him to follow, after his discharge. Our service staff still keeps in contact with his parents to ensure Tashkenbay continues to stay healthy.
Tashkenbay EF increased from 20% to 40% and the size of his heart almost returned to normal. We are all pleased to see him improve this much and are looking forward to seeing him grow up into a healthy strong man.
