Spinal Cord Reconstruction Surgery for Spinal Cord Injury

History

Cesar suffered an accidental three-story fall, and ended up with a severe spinal cord injury. The CT scan taken at the local hospital showed significant fracture of vertebra T-11. Surgery was done and the fractured T-11 was fixed anatomically. In his hope to gain further improvement, Cesar decided to consider spinal cord reconstruction for Spinal Cord Injury.

After receiving an encouraging evaluation, the patient decided to travel Brazil to Beijing for spinal cord reconstruction. He was admitted to Beijing Puhua International Hospital on Oct. 30th 2011.

Medical Condition Prior to Spinal Cord Reconstruction Surgery and Neural Growth Factor Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury

Cesar was paraplegic: He couldn’t move his legs. He was confined to a wheelchair as he couldn’t stand or walk. This situation brought him a lot of inconvenience in daily life. As a professional (a dentist), he found it very hard for him to continue his professional work after his injury.

Medical Condition after Spinal Cord Reconstruction Surgery and Neural Growth Factor Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury

Interview with Cesar before he leaves the hospital:

Cesar’s condition improved dramatically after the treatment.
During the rehabilitation exercise, he was trained to walk with the help of therapist. Before he was discharged, wearing orthotics, he managed to stand up and walk forward with his hands holding a walker. This was impossible before the spinal cord reconstruction surgery, and will allow him to return to a relatively normal personal and professional life as a dentist in Brazil.
