3- The mechanism of action for Stem Cell Treatment for heart disease
1） Cardiac Differentiation Mechanism:
Injecting Stem Cells directly into the damaged area of the heart, intitates the repair of the myocardium by releasing into the surrounding tissue, several factors such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, exosomes or microparticles, which initiate various processes of restoration that include activation of endogenous CSCs, neovascularisation, inhibition of apoptosis, inhibition of hypertrophy, and favorable alterations of the extracellular matrix. Numerous experiments conducted in recent years demonstrated that within 12 weeks of receiving the Stem Cell Transplantation, the ventricular wall of the patient’s heart, which previously was obviously thickening in the infarction area, significantly decreased in thickness, providing evidence of its effectiveness.
2) Paracrine action:
Transplanted stem cells repair the damaged myocardium through the release several factors such as cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, exosomes or microparticles, which initiate various processes of restoration that include activation of endogenous CSCs, neovascularisation , inhibition of apoptosis, inhibition of hypertrophy and favorable alterations of the extracellular matrix.
After scientists injected stem cells to treat myocardial infarction, it was discovered that after only two weeks, left ventricular cardiac function improved, capillary density was significantly increased and that the transplant area gave evidence of a significant increased VEGF expression. (Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), originally known as vascular permeability factor (VPF), is a signal protein produced by cells that stimulates the formation of blood vessels.)
Through the above mechanism, the ischemic micro environment of the affected area is changed, as stem cell promote the release cytokines, growth factors and microRNA’s, they also differentiate into myocardial cells, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, etc.
These new cells then effectively restore myocardial function by restoring the damage in the area caused by the myocardial infarction. As heart function improves, the patient’s quality of life improved and all of this is achieved with minimal risk to the patient health.

After receiving her Doctor Degree in Japan, Dr. Jia returned to China and was employed at Beijing Fuwai Hospital, China’s top Cardiovascular Hospital. Beijing Fuwai Hospital is in fact one of the largest Cardiovascular Hospitals in the world, it is here where Dr Jia obtained her Post-doctor Degree and gained valuable experience, including the use of Stem Cell Therapy for heart disease.
